Blessed Assurance

1 Samuel 8

1 And it came to pass, when Samuel was old, that he made his sons judges over Israel.

2 Now the name of his firstborn was Joel; and the name of his second, Abiah: they were judges in Beersheba.

3 And his sons walked not in his ways, but turned aside after lucre, and took bribes, and perverted judgment.

4 Then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together, and came to Samuel unto Ramah,

5 And said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.

6 But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the Lord.

7 And the Lord said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.

  1.  Assurance That We Will Reap What We Sow

    1. Its not what the baby wanted that hurt him, it was what he got.

    2. God warned them through Samuel what was to come. Faith in man.

    3. Their disobedience and rejection was for God and not Samuel.

      1. God is still able. They desired to follow man.

    4. When we put our faith in men we reject God as well.

      1. Men will always fail us.

    5. Much like the Israelites, we desire what God tells us is wrong for us.

    6. How can we plant corn and expect wheat to grow.

      1. We ask why things are going the wrong way in the world, but we continue to plant the wrong seeds.

    7. God warned the Israelites of what a Kings reign would mean to them.  Are we not living that same story out here and now? Less Polit---More Spirit…

    8. Sin is not only rampant, but we have legalized it.  Too a great degree we have become conditioned to accept it.  What we allow to happen on our watch……We condone!!!!!

    9. We complain of the way things are, but do little or nothing to make change.  We fuss about 2020, the times to come are promised to be worse.

    10. Our iniquity and rejection of God’s Leadership only sows more sin and destruction.  We continue to reap what we sow.

Matthew 24: 1-14

1 And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple.

2 And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?

4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.

5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.

7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.

8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.

9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.

10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.

11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.

12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

      2. Famines in all the land.

      3. Pestilence in many places.

      4. Earthquakes in many places.

      5. I would add plagues, fires, and persecution of Christianity.

      6. Verse 8 tells us that this is the beginning of sorrows.  This is only the tip of the iceberg of the horror and doom that is to come.

      7. Verse 9 speaks of many that shall be killed in the name of Christ.

        1. How willing are we to profess Christ—We need to possess Him.

      8. Verse 10 points to something that we are overrun with in todays society.  Those that are offended, those that hate and the betrayal of fellow men.

        1. Our morals need to match our beliefs.

        1. Be steadfast and do not drift in the wind.

      10. Verse 12 speaks to the hearts of men growing cold to love.

        1. Love is of the Father.  Lust is born of Satan.

      11. Verse 14 tells us that all this must take place and that the Gospel must be heard by all men, then the end shall come.

        1. The Great Commission fulfilled.  All shall hear.

  1. Blessed Assurance In The Arms Of Christ

    1. Blessed is the knowledge that we are truly saved.

    2. Much greater is the assurance that we are saved for eternity.

    3. We are assured that once the Holy Spirit enters our heart, that He finishes whatever He begins.  We are all works in progress.

    4. When we accept Him as Lord and Savior, He wraps His arms around us for good.  He is holding us, we are not holding on to him.

    5. Was Noah a real man?

      1. Did God commission Him to build an ark?

      2. Did God seal the door that no water would enter?

      3. Where was Noah when the water began to rise?

      4. God was at the helm and controlled the path of the ark.

      5. Today God is still at the helm, but we must recognize the fact that He is holding us and guiding us.

    6. We are blessed to know that eternal life is ours if the Holy Spirit resides within us.  We often speak of eternal life as something that we look forward to after death. Eternal life does not begin at death, but rather at salvation. We are experiencing life eternal right now if we know Christ.

    7. Song “Blessed Assurance”.

      1. Foretaste of Glory divine.- Our joy is a little taste of His glory.

        1. Sample of the Ice Cream-I want it all.

      2. Perfect Submission- In His Arms.  We are safe and secure.

        1. We do not need to live in fear.  God is in control.

    8. Those that trust upon Him and endure shall be saved.

      1. It will not always be easy.

      2. We will be challenged.

      3. God will sustain us.

      4. Jesus prayed for you…….

    9. John 17:13-20….Jesus prays for those that are His.

13 And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves.   Joy

14 I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.   The Word

15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.  Sustain Us

16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.  Sanctification--Seperate

17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.   Sanctified in God’s Word

18 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.  Our Call to witness

19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.

20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;   Those that believe
