When Looking For The Lion, Don’t Miss the Lamb

Revelation 5: 1-4

1 And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals.

2 And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof?

3 And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon.

4 And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon.

  1. Who Is Worthy To Open The Seals?

    1. God the Father holds the scrolls sealed with seven seals and is seated on the throne.

    2. In Verse 2 we see a strong angel shout, Who is worthy to break the seals?

    3. Verse 3 tells is No one in Heaven or Earth of those that have passed could open the seals.

    4. Then we are told that John Wept.  John was moved to sobbing and tears for he knew what this meant if the scrolls could not be opened.

    5. Daniel 7: 9-10 Refers us to what the scrolls contained and there importance.

    6. John knew that without the scrolls opened:

      1. History would not be governed in the interest of the church.

      2. There would be no justice for God’s elect.

      3. No ultimate victory for the believers.

      4. No Judgement for the wicked.

      5. No new Heaven or New Earth.

      6. No future inheritance for those that are redeemed.

    7. John knew that the scrolls must be opened that the promises of God could be fulfilled.  So He Wept!!!

    8. “The scrolls held the fullness of God’s Plan for Redemption and Judgement” Voddie Baucham.

    9. The scrolls must be opened, So Who is Worthy??????????

    10. No win situation-----Locked out and needing the key.

Revelation 5: 5

5 And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.

  1. Weep No More!!!

    1. Verse 5 tells us that one of the elders spoke to John and that there is one that can loose the seals.

      1. It is the Lion of Judah—Genesis 49 : 8

      2. The Root of David—A reference to lineage—Jesus Christ

    2. This reference to strength and power reminds us that He is the ultimate judge, though we don’t like to think of Him as a judge.  We are much more comfortable focusing on His love and compassion.

    3. But, if He is not the ultimate judge, what are we saved from?

      1. Are we not saved from the wrath of God the Father?

      2. Are we not saved from the vengeance that is coming for the wicked?

      3. Jesus is and shall be the ultimate judge. Every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that He is Lord.

      4. We will either bow today before Him, or at judgement, the choice is yours.

    4. Because He is worthy to loose the seals, Jesus rules sovereignly over all future events.

    5. Because He can loose the seals our fate is set if we know Him as Lord and Savior.

    6. There is only one door into Heaven and that is Jesus Christ, Imagine being locked out and needing the key.  Jesus holds the key.

Revelation 5: 6-8

6 And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.

7 And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne.

8 And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.

  1. The Lion or The Lamb?

    1. Verse 6 tells us that upon the elders words that John began to look for the one that the elder spoke of.

    2. Where is this Lion of Judah?

    3. There John tells us that “In The Midst”  he saw a lamb—a lamb that had been slain.  He was looking for a Lion, but he saw “The Lamb”.

    4. In the midst tells us, that Jesus was always at the center of it all.

    5. God the Father has given Him Providence over all future events.

    6. Verse 7 shows us a transfer of power of the lamb takes the scrolls from the hand of the one that sits on the throne.

    7. Worthy is the Lion that brings Justice and Vengeance---Strength

    8. Worthy is the Lamb that brings Redemption—Sacrifice

    9. Praise be to God that the Lion and the Lamb, they are one.

    10. When He had taken the scrolls, we are told that the 4 and 20 elders and the four beasts fell down before Him and worshipped.

      1. There is going to be worship in Heaven—John gives us a picture of things to come for those that are faithful.

      2. Each held a harp and a golden vial that contains the odorful prayers of the saints.  Our prayers have an odor that is magnified in Heaven.

      3. Verse 9—They are singing Worthy is He to Loose the Seals……

        1. For He is the Lamb that bought all redemption.

    11. Imagine the Joy that John must have felt to look upon the Lamb in the midst.

    12. Where are our eyes today, are we looking for a Lion or are we Looking upon the Lamb in the midst?

    13. Chris Kouba of Prestonwood Baptist Church tells us, The loosing of the seals should bring us great joy, as that was Satan’s eviction notice.

    14. The Holy Spirit and Satan cannot reside in the same place.

    15. What is in your heart today?

    16. Weep no more for He is worthy!!!!!
